Model of the USS Darter (SS-227) that Frank Ruma had made in either Freemantle or Perth, Australia, in November of 1944, after the Darter ran aground on Bombay Schoal in the South China Sea, October 24th, 1944, and the Darter crew was rescued by the USS Dace (SS-247). The coffee cup was given to Frank when he was promoted to Chief Torpedoman when the USS Menhaden (SS-377) was commissioned on June 22nd, 1945.
 
Frank T. Ruma's initials on the back of the coffee cup. He was often kidded about his initials when he was the Leading Torpedoman in the Forward Torpedo Room (FTR) of the USS Darter.
 
The stainless steel model is 7-inches long and is mounted on a polished mahogany base, 9 3/4-inches long.
